4 people, and no time..? Then it's not really a tournament (if it's not teams). I'ts more of a free for all brawl. No intentions on being rude, but it's pretty hard to not be it...

I assume this is no items with no altered KB ratio and only tourney-legal stages?

Play Brawl seriously, then play Melee seriously. Brawl is boring. If I wanted to wavedash in Brawl I'd play Yoshi.

Brawl is bad because of being a completely untested game - code has practically proven that last-minute changes and PROGRAMMING ERRORS severely broke (Snake) or ruined (Ganon) several characters. The floaty jumping and weird recoveries make sure that a whole aspect of the game, edgeguarding, is pretty much non-existant. Something that makes the game really unique and they take it away?
The game moves slowly and is brought wrong. Smash Bros. is supposed to be an experience enjoyable to everybody - Melee hit the ball perfectly. If you're competitive, you'll love how deep and technical the game can be. If you're not, turn on all items and play on Big Blue. Brawl pretty much features only the latter - turn on all items and party. It's not a competitive game, at all, which means the game can't even do what it's supposed to be doing: give an enjoyable experience to every kind of player.

I also have my gripes about how online mode is done, with friend codes and not being able to at least message your opponent, but I think that's more the fault of Nintendo's policy about online than Sakurai's or the developer team's fault.

And before we start whining about wavedashing and L-cancelling and what not - I play Melee competitively, so I wavedash and L-cancel in Melee. L-cancelling has been an intentional inclusion in the games, being around since 64 (in fact, the technique in 64 could be seen on the site, it wasn't all that advanced). Wavedashing has been known to be in Melee during early testing stages according to an interview Sakurai gave. However, at that point they decided not to take it out as to give an advantage to players willing to learn it - ie. competitive gamers. I personally think the game is better off without wavedashing, but since it's in Melee and I play that game competitively I'm willing to learn and use wavedashing if I become a better player from it (and I do).

I personally find that people who play Brawl and say it's better than Melee don't know what a good game is unless it slaps them in the face. Brawl isn't just bad competitvely, it was badly designed, badly marketed, badly tested and an extremely overhyped game.

If you play it with friends it becomes a lot more. I love both Melee and Brawl. I find Melee better for 1 0n 1s and Brawl better for four players.

I think the point is that online with a stupid game is pointless. If the game isn't any good to begin with, why would you want an online mode?

Don't get me wrong, I like Brawl, but then, I'm not a competative gamer, but I still find many things in Brawl annoying, such as Snake and Tripping (>:C). Melee was better in terms of gameplay, but Brawl was better in terms of characters. Basically, Brawl was a fangasm, Melee was a game.
